THE STORY BEGINS...

On 1st of May 2008, me and a friend (Omel) went to Port Dickson to ease our mind while fishing in Marina Lagoon. It was a splendid 3 days vacation cos we have a chance to talk about our career plan and our future, it was very relaxing eventhough thru out the vacation we only caught a fish, hehehe.. On our way back, we stopped by at Port Dickson Mini Zoo, me and Omel has been animals lover since we were kids. It was a very simple zoo runs by a family. What caught our attention was they have guinea fowls and quite other few game birds.

When we get back in KL, we start searching information of Guinea Fowl and how we can breed it so that everybody can "taste" this very exquisite taste of this special game bird. The search for this game birds is endless, and along the way we met new friends that share same compassions. On 11th June 2008, the 1st batch of guinea keets arrive in BinDim Farm (BD Farm) in Pontian, Johor together with 8 poultes. This is a pilot project and i dont even tell my mum about the arrival of these birds.. hehehe... btw BD farm is own by me and my brother (Abdul Kadir @ Kadir Belanda).

To date, BD Farm has more than 250 turkeys and arnd 50 guinea fowls, we also raised ayam kampung & Ayam Kabir, we are targeting of supplying at least 300 birds per month starting from June 2010. Other than poultry, we also have 4 ponds of catfish, 4 ponds of ikan puyu, and 2 ponds of ikan haruan in our humble BinDim Farm...

Kesian abg aku....

Salam semua..

Kali ni plak aku nk cerita psl ragam manusia… Semenjak BinDim Farm ada blog sendiri ni mmg ramai jgk org yg tel dan berminat nk melawat reban dan membeli ternakan dari kami, alhamdullillah mmg rezeki kami agaknya. Dulu aku pun x bape yakin dgn marketing melalui internet ni, ye la..ada bape byk blog/website kat luar sana tu, takkan la ada yg nk jengok blog kami, huhuhu… tp so far, mmg menggalakkan, hehehe..

Tapi yg tak sedapnya ada yg beria2 berjanji nk dtg ke reban dan melawat, tp bila smpi ms yg dijanjikan tak nmpk pun batang hidung, kesian abg aku (kadir belanda). Kenapa aku ckp kesian kat die ekh?? Byk sebabnye..

1. kalau korang nk tau abg aku ni rumah dia kat JB, keje kat Kota tinggi, so bila ada org nk dtg reban die kena balik pontian. Jauh tu beb, sejam jgk la, duit minyak lagi, tol lagi, huhu.. yg kat rumah cuma ada mak aku, if nk borak2 kosong boleh la, ni ada yg nk tanye harga, nk beli itu n ini, so mmg abg aku kena ada utk layan kehendak pelawat.

2. Abg aku dh berkeluarga dan ada komitmen sendiri, so bila pelawat nk dtg tu die terpaksa cancel plan lain utk keluarga die semata2 nk entertain pelawat, bila smpi kg tunggu punya tunggu, tp xde yg dtg, tentu la die hampa.

3. Kiteorg tak kisah pelawat nk dtg, bahkan mengalu2kan kedatangan korang supaya kita dpt berkongsi idea dan maybe boleh wujudkan rangkaian perniagaan. Kami juga tak kisah if korang nk cancel lawatan sbb kami paham kadang2 ada perkara emergency last minit. Tp tolong la call atleast 1 hari awal katakan tak jd dtg, supaya kami pun tak kecewa sgt. Yg kami agak kecewa ialah, bukan setakat x cancel tp tak call langsung pun kata nk dtg or tak, buat kami tertunggu2 dh akhirnya tak dtg.. huhu.. kesian abg aku tau.. dh 5,6 kali jugak bende ni berlaku, huhu.. dan ada jgk yg die balik pontian on weekdays sbb nk layan pelawat..

K lah, tu je posting kalini. Just kesian abg aku w’pun dia kata x kisah n ketawa2 selalu tp byk gak bende lain yg die terpaksa lepaskan (opportunity cost) semata2 nk layan pelawat2, huhu.. anyway, kepada yg dh dtg tu, terima kasih byk2, dan kalau ada salah silap dan kekurangan kami minta maaf.. TQ n salam….

Cerita dulu-dulu...

Tp yg turkey kami x potong. So selepas potong kami biarkan GF fowl tu lepas, yesss!! success.. Sbb dia cuma leh terbang takat 3,4 kaki jer... then lepaskan turkey plak, mak aiii!! baru lepas je, die trs henjut n lompat melepasi pagar 7 kaki tu.. so kami pun tangkap la turkey2 tu n potong bulu sayap die. dlm reban tu hbs penuh dgn bulu turkey n GF, rsnye if korang tgk mcm ada 4,5 ekor musang masuk reban dan menyerang ayam2 kami, hehehe..

Selepas beberapa minggu, ayam2 ni dh leh terbang dgn normal semula, so bermula la episod tangkap/halau turkey nk bg masuk kawasan reban setiap kali bg mkn sebelah petang. Untuk GF plak mmg tak daya nk tangkap/halau sebab terbang mcm burung n tdo atas pokok rambutan, lantak kau lah labu.. Kisah ini berlarutan sehingga la Januari 2009 selepas reban besar kami siap walaupun ms tu kami dah tutup bahagian atas pagar (sealed sepenuhnya ala2 reban kapten zaman kat kajang). Aku rasa satu2nya rakan ternak yg sempat tgk reban yg daif ini ialah Pak Itam dr Kelang. Tq pak itam sbb memberi sokongan selama ini w'pun dia geleng kepala jgk ms tgk reban kami, hehehe..

Itu lah cerita reban pertama kami, kalau tiba musim hujan, masyaAllah... Mmg habis jd lopak kawasan reban ni dan ayam2 semua basah n sgt kotor dek kena lumpur tanah gambut, nasib baik takde yg kena penyakit, Allah mmg nk tolong kami masa tu, Alhamdullillah..

Nasihat kami kat sesapa yg nk start bela ayam2 ni, mulakan dr bawah/kecil sbb byk ragamnya ayam2 ni yg buat kita peling kepala nk handle, bukan mcm ayam kg yg "tahan dan sempoi.." Kami harap 2010 ni kami dpt membesarkan lagi reban kami yg sedia ada ini. Aminnnn... Doakan la ekh... TQ & Wassalam...

Aksi berbahaya di musim kemarau (dilarang meniru aksi ini di rumah)

Gambar kat atas tu gambar kebun kami tgh terbakar.. hahahaha… bukan la itu gambar aktiviti bahaya kami bakar kebun ms musim kemarau ni, muahahaha… mak aku dh berbuih dah mulut cakap “upahkan je indon bakar kebun tu, kalau korang bakar nnt x leh control, hbs terbakar kebun sebelah”, itulah ayat mak aku, die x percaya dgn kehebatan anak die ni, huhuuhuhu…

Tapi ms balik CNY yg lepas, lepas aku bagi makan ayam2 tu semua (bg mkn sesi ptg start dlm pkl 4pm) aku dapati abg aku (kadir belanda) tiba2 hilang. Mana die pegi ni, die ni dah la selalu mengelat time bagi mkn ternakan, asyik aku je yg kena bagi, huhu… aku tgk motor ada, kereta die pun ada, dh sah la ini org tgh buat aksi terancang yg sgt berbahaya.

Actually kebun mak aku ni just belakang umah jer, tapak umah dan kebun arwah bapak aku seluas 2.5 ekar, dan just belakang kebun tu kebun mak aku yg keluasan hamper sama. Setelah aku yakin abg aku tgh beraksi, aku pun pegi la blkg umah, setelah berjalan sejauh dlm 100 meter aku nmpk asap2 kat kebun, mmg sah la ini orang tgh bakar itu kebun.

Dh lah masa tu tgh panas (skrg ni pukul 5pm pun msh terik), dh lama tak ujan plak tu, dgn selamba die bwk mancis dan bakar kebun. Bila aku tanye “ko dh dpt kelulusan manager (mak) ke?”, die jawab “isshhh… ko ni, diam2 je lar... kalau die tak tau tak per..” hahaha… die tambah “alar.. ni zup zap, zup zap, siap la….” Senang jer dia ckp. Die kata “ko jgn risau, semua under control, ko tgk n relaks jer…” sambil tersenyum dgn muka yg agak berlagak..

Tp aku mmg yakin, smpi satu tahap mmg x leh control, lps tu aku jgk yg jd mangsa nnt. So, aku duduk bawah pokok sawit sempadan kebun bapak aku dan tgk je aksi die mengawal api tu. Mula2 ok la, semua jalan dgn baik, lps setengah jam, kaw yg terbakar tu mula merebak dan terkena anak sawit yg baru ditanam semula kat belah kebun arwah bapak aku, kelam kabut abg aku padam, hahahaha.. pada satu masa api marak almost 6kaki tggi, risau jgk tu, last2 aku jgk yg disuruh ambil baldi kt umah, huhuhu.. pastu kami ceduk air kat kolam berhampiran dan padam yg mana boleh, tak lama lps tu keadaan terkawal balik. So slps dlm sejam membakar, separuh kebun mak aku settle, tggl separuh lg maybe kami upahkan jer, sbb cuak gak takut merebak ke kebun jiran, hehehe… tau takut…

sempadan kebun sawit arwah bapak aku yg terjejas...

setelah sejam membakar, ni lah hasilnya.. hehehe...

Commercial Reared Chicken vs Free Range Chicken

Hi everybody…

If u notice, the introduction of our blog is in English but so far all of our posting is in malay, so its kind of funny right. So, our intention now is to post some article in English, so that BinDim Farm can be read not only by Malaysian or our Nusantara relatives (Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore-malay, n etc) but also by all poultry enthusiast around the world.

Ok, let we discuss our above topic. As I watch my favorite tv show “River Cottage Spring” anchored by my favorite presenter Hugh Fearnly Whittingstall, I found a very alarming facts that really open my eyes and mind. So far in my mind the main if not the only advantage of free range chicken compared to commercially produce chicken is the better taste while we also give the chicken the way of life they should be living.

BinDim Farm believe chicken is an animal, and they should be treated as one, not as mutated living thing that just eat, drink, eat and 39 days later ended in our plate. Every chicken should lead a normal chicken life, means they should be able to see the sun light, roaming in the grass/field, playing around, eating the green, chasing the bug and other thing that normal chicken normally did. BD farm believe this is the RIGHT of every chicken. We also believe if our poultry is happy, they will produce a better meat, thus creating a better chain of life when we eat a happy chicken.

For years that thought is just a thought until I watched “River Cottage Spring” last night. In order to support his campaign (chicken out campaign), Hugh Fearnly went to a professor (I couldn’t recall his name but he is from London Metropolitan University) that has been studied the chicken revolution through out Europe for the past 30 years. Before the chicken been commercially produce in bulk, chicken is actually human main source for omega 3, protein and lean meat. He believe that since its commercially produce, the content of Omega 3 in chicken meat has fallen to 85% from it should be.

Omega 3 is a brain booster in child brain development and for adults Omega 3 hinder us from Mental Ilness. The professor deeply expressed his concerned on the increased of stress people and under developed kids around Europe due to what they eat. He believe what we eat will determine of how we behave. (just what BD Farm thought).

Then Hugh bring him 3 chickens and ask him to study the amount of nutrition on each of the sample. The 3 samples of chicken is:

1. Commercially produce chicken, 35-42 days chicken.
2. Slow grow corn fed chicken (representing the organic chicken, but still not reared in free range environment)
3. 70 days free range chicken.

The result is shocking, the free range chicken contains 10 times more omega 3 that the other 2 samples. Its also have 25% less fat than the other sample. So now, eating free range chicken is not only tastier but also healthier, agreed?? especially for our children.

The professor also give some advice that in order for a chicken to produce a meat that is healthy and best for human consumption particularly high in Omega 3, chicken needs 3 thing, that is:

1. Time, give them enough time to grow and develop dark muscle.
2. Give them chances to eat grass/herbs/green thing
3. Enough exercise like roaming in the field and etc.

Have u ever heard of a phrase, saying: You are what you eat….???? so, eat wisely my friends, choose wisely too.. you do not want to be a commercially produce chicken aren’t you? Caged, never seen sun light, under age chicken. No wonder many of us is so stress every single day and having regular migraine, huhuhu...
